Boredom Busters!

This is a very strange time for us all at the moment, and with school cancellations and social distancing in place we at OWLS know you must have some very bored young people around the house! So we are going to be posting competitons, activities and ideas here to help keep our community occupied and engaged with nature as much as we can. That being said, Mouse and I are very aware of the seriousness of COVID-19, and urge you to keep the advice of our medical professionals in mind; wash your hands, maintain a safe distance when outside, sneeze and cough into your elbows, and limit your contact with others. As time goes on we will be posting more ideas, feel free to submit any you may have that you like to swan@owls.ie!

With all that in mind, have a look below and see what you can do to tackle the boredom and cabin fever:

Who Lives under the Enchanted Tree?

I was on a walk a few days ago back home in Cork, and came across this Enchanted looking Tree Trunk. What's more it looks like some clever creature has made their home in a burrow underneath it! It got me thinking about how important mythical tales and storytelling based around nature are such a key part of Irish culture, and what kind of fantastical creations might be inspired by this mossy trunk?

This is the first of the activities I'm challenging our OWLS community to do; Write a short story/Draw a picture of/Record a video desribing your mythical burrow dweller, and what they might get up to during their day. Submit your entries to swan@owls.ie or via WhatsApp at 0852842402 by next week (26/03/20). If we get enough entries we may offer a prize for our favourite!
